“What can seeds grow into?”

This simple question became the beginning of a meaningful journey for the children of Little Olive Tree (Bethesda Depot Walk) as they stepped into the role of “Kinder Gardeners” through a hands-on learning experience at City Sprouts @ Henderson.

As part of our Creation C.A.R.E. journey this year, the children explored the world of farming and sustainability through inquiry, observation, and experimentation. Discovering that growth begins with both wonder and responsibility.

During the farm tour, the children were introduced to different methods of farming, including aeroponics, hydroponics, and traditional soil-based agriculture. As they walked through the growing spaces, they observed how plants can thrive in different environments and learnt why urban farming matters, especially in land-scarce Singapore.

Yet beyond facts and systems, there was something deeper taking place.

As children noticed the shapes of leaves, the colours of flowers, and the uniqueness of different plants, they were learning to slow down and see beauty in the world around them. In many ways, this is part of what Creation C.A.R.E. hopes to nurture, eyes that notice wonder and hearts that learn gratitude for the beauty of God’s creation.

For our younger preschoolers, the Seed Bomb Making workshop became an exciting opportunity to get their hands dirty while learning an important lesson: even small actions can make a meaningful difference. Using soil and clay, they created seed bombs and discovered that caring for the environment is something everyone can participate in, no matter how young.

The kindergarteners also explored hydroponics through a hands-on experiment using recycled bottles to create their own growing systems. They discovered that while plants may not always need soil, they still need sunlight, water, nutrients, and consistent care to flourish.

And perhaps, that lesson felt quietly familiar.

Because growth, whether in plants or people, rarely happens overnight.

It requires patience. Care. Consistency.

At Little Olive Tree, we believe children learn best when experiences move beyond the classroom and into the real world. Through moments like these, children are not only learning about sustainability, but also developing values of responsibility, stewardship, patience, and compassion.

We want our children to see themselves not only as gardeners of the Earth, but gardeners of the heart, learning that what we care for grows.

Because when little hands learn to care for creation, little hearts begin to grow in truth, beauty, and goodness.
