Last Saturday, Christian educators, leaders, and aspiring teachers gathered at St. Andrew’s Cathedral for a combined Christian Early Childhood Career Fair. It was a call to a mission field where the harvest is plenty but the laborers are few.
In the world of early childhood education, Christian teachers play a unique and irreplaceable role in planting seeds of faith, shaping young hearts, and sharing God’s love and truth with the next generation.
At a time when secularism, relativism, and humanism are shaping the education landscape, the presence of godly educators in Christian preschools is more crucial than ever.
Why Christian Teachers Matter
A child’s first years are the most formative. These are the years when their worldview, values, and identity take shape. In a Christian preschool setting, teachers are not just educators—they are mentors, role models, and shepherds who point children to Christ through their words, actions, and prayers.
🔹 They teach that truth is not relative, but found in Christ (John 14:6).
🔹 They help children see that they are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14).
🔹 They nurture kindness, integrity, and a love for God and others.
In a touching example from one of our preschools, a little boy named Elliot, who has been battling seizures, has been lifted up in daily prayers by his classmates. Not only have his friends been praying for him before lunch, but they also reassured his younger sister, Chloe, that they would be her “gor gor” (older brothers) until Elliot got better. This culture of love, faith, and support happens because of the Christian teachers who foster an environment where children learn to trust in God and care for one another.
The Challenge Before Us
Despite the critical role of Christian teachers, the Christian preschool sector in Singapore is shrinking. As highlighted in our recent “A Call to Support Our Preschools Ministry”, the percentage of Christian preschools has declined from 18% to less than 9% over the last decade, and the number of Christian early childhood educators is not keeping pace with the need.
This is why the Christian Early Childhood Career Fair was so important. Organised in partnership with Anglican, Methodist, New Life, and Presbyterian preschool services, the event served as a rallying call for Christian educators—both experienced and new—to step into this field as a mission, not just a job.

The Call to Action: We Need More Christian Teachers
If you are a Christian educator or know someone who is considering a career in early childhood education, now is the time to step forward.
Pray—Ask God if He is calling you to this mission field.
Consider teaching in a Christian preschool—Your influence in a child’s early years can impact their faith for a lifetime.
Encourage young educators—If you know young Christians considering teaching, challenge them to see it as a ministry.
Support Christian preschools—Through prayer, volunteering, and advocacy, help strengthen Christian early childhood education in Singapore.

A Kingdom Impact That Lasts a Lifetime
Christian education is not just about preparing children for primary school—it’s about preparing them for life and eternity. The seeds planted in a child’s heart today will bear fruit for generations to come.
The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few (Matthew 9:37).
Will you answer the call?
