Excursions are always the highlight for our children, and as the day draws near, the classrooms buzz with their excited chatter! This time, the Nursery, K1, and K2 children from Little Olive Tree Bukit Arang and Hougang explored the Singapore Turf Club, discovering truth, appreciating beauty, and learning about goodness through every sight and sound witnessed outdoors.

The children encountered truth in its most authentic form, moving from apprehension to understanding. One child’s nervous whisper,

“I am not scared any more…”

as a horse gently sniffed his hand, marked a moment of personal triumph and a lesson learned: that trust is built with patience and gentle curiosity. They discovered the tangible realities of care, from the specific feed for strength to the truth that each horse has its own personality, with one child proudly declaring,

“My favourite horse is Big Mac. He likes eating!”

The children appreciated beauty in many ways. Beyond admiring the horses, they helped create it themselves. There was beauty in brushing a coat until it shone and in the small moment of offering a carrot to a horse. Walking through the tidy stables, they noticed how care and attention make a difference—an idea that built naturally on their earlier discoveries of trust and patience. One child reflected on the quiet connection they felt, showing how beauty can be found in simple, attentive actions.

“The horse is quiet and was not scared of me.”

Most powerfully, the trip was a masterclass in goodness. This value shone brightest in the children’s own conduct. They showed respect by not shouting, understanding that a calm presence is a gift to a sensitive animal. They honoured the horses’ home, moving with mindful care. Their gentle pats and patient feeding were active expressions of empathy, reflecting a shared, unspoken agreement of kindness between child and creature.

By stepping into the world of the Singapore Turf Club, our youngest learners gathered not just facts, but wisdom. They returned understanding that truth is discovered through gentle interaction, beauty is co-created through respectful care, and goodness is expressed through every quiet, and kind action they chose to take.
