Learning Journey with Heart: Little Olive Tree Children and Seniors from Presbyterian Eldercare@Potong Pasir AAC Celebrate SG60 Together On 7 August 2025, the spirit of community and connection came alive as children from Little Olive Tree Bukit Arang and Hougang came together with 30 seniors from Potong Pasir Active Ageing Centre (AAC) for a heartwarming intergenerational learning journey. Themed around heritage, togetherness, and celebration, the event was held in conjunction with Singapore’s 60th birthday — SG60. The highlight of the day was a hands-on session where the young and old teamed up to make ang ku kueh, a traditional Chinese pastry symbolising longevity and blessings. Guided by the seniors, the children learned not just the art of crafting this beloved treat, but also absorbed stories and cultural wisdom passed down through generations.

For many of the children, it was their first time learning about the significance of ang ku kueh, while for the seniors, it was a meaningful opportunity to share cherished memories and skills. Laughter, curiosity, and joy filled the room as they worked together to mould, shape, and press the delicate kuehs. The activity sparked delightful conversations and moments of mutual learning — bridging the gap between generations through food, culture, and shared purpose.

This intergenerational programme beautifully showcased the power of connection across age groups. It not only strengthened community bonds but also provided a meaningful platform for both children and seniors to learn from each other.

As Singapore celebrates 60 years of nationhood, events like these remind us that our heritage is best preserved — and our future best nurtured — when generations come together, hand in hand.
