Changing lives with our Education Support Programme for children with added needs
Here at Presbyterian Preschool Services (PPS), we believe that each child is a gift, created wonderfully and uniquely in God’s image, capable of learning, growing and glowing. Thus, we endeavour to provide education for children of various backgrounds and learning needs. What is the Education Support Programme (ESP)? The ESP is a quality educational programme that supports children with developmental needs aged between eighteen months to six years old. Children learn alongsi

The Right 'Stuff'
2023’s 1st Staff Learning Day On 17 March, the teaching staff at Presbyterian Preschool Services gathered at Orchard Road Presbyterian Church to consider a weighty but essential question: what is the collective story of our lives? And if it were to orient around the good of the children under our care and the colleagues we cross paths with, what might that life look like? Our morning begun during a time of praise and worship led by Ms. Joyce Chia (Head of Pastoral Care) and M

A sunny day out to Gardens By The Bay!
With the sun shining brightly and a gentle breeze in the air, the atmosphere was charged with excitement and anticipation. Everyone was looking forward to a team bonding day for the non-teaching staff at Gardens by the Bay - it was a well-deserved day off from the everyday hustle and bustle in the Centres. As everyone gathered at the meeting point, laughter and chatter filled the air as colleagues caught up with each other and shared their excitement for the day ahead. In fac

Blessing the community amidst the Lunar New Year festivities!
The Lunar New Year is always an exciting festival for everyone, especially for children! It means time with family, new year goodies and a rest from everyone’s usual routines at school or work. Much of the excitement is also fuelled by children dressing up in their New Year outfits! Most of us look forward to New Years mostly because of what it signifies – a brand new year that is accompanied by new hopes, new opportunities and a fresh start. A do-over, for those of us who ar

Dedication Service 2023: Faith over Fear, Fatigue, Failure
On the 1st Saturday of 2023, 350 of us gathered onsite at Prinsep Street Presbyterian Church for 2023’s Dedication Service. With so much uncertainty looming in Singapore and the rest of the world, so many of us wearied by everyday challenges, and reminders of how we may have tried and failed, this year’s theme of Faith Over Fear, Fatigue and Failure is particularly poignant. PCS and PPS’ Mission: Meeting the Challenges and Needs in our Community From the beginning of the se

Back To School as a Family!
Every new school year is greeted with much excitement. Sure, there is usually some nervousness and anxiety, especially for the newly enrolled children. However, for most of us, it is a largely positive experience because of the care and warmth that the children experience. Beyond the usual hype, this year’s Back to School at Presbyterian Preschool Services marked an even more unique beginning. New Year, New Beginnings at Little Olive Tree On 3 January 2023, the Little Olive

Sharing our Christmas Blessings with those who need it!
All of us here at Presbyterian Preschool Services would like to wish everyone a beautiful and blessed Christmas! As Christmas Day approaches, most would agree that it is indeed a very special time of the year. Everyone looks forward to cosy Christmas gatherings which come with heart-warming conversations, delicious food and gift exchanges! However, that is not all there is to Christmas. We remember the story about how a baby was born in a manger on Christmas Day all those ye

Meeting the needs of the community with our Little Olive Tree Preschools!
All hands were on deck as staff from Presbyterian Preschool Services put in their all to get ready for the launch of not one, but two Little Olive Tree Preschools! Over the past 2 Saturdays, we held Open Houses for Little Olive Tree Preschool @ Bukit Arang, as well as Little Olive Tree Preschool @ Woodlands. You may be wondering what an ‘Olive Tree’ has to do with providing good preschool education to our children. In the Bible, the flowering olive tree represents beauty, abu

The Truth, Beauty and Goodness Curriculum
The 'What', the 'Why' and the 'How' Children today are growing in a volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous (VUCA) climate. In spite of the proliferation of information, and bite-sized news on social media, parents (and teachers, if we might add) are struggling to raise children of the next generation. Challenges that never existed just a decade ago now seep into our everyday lives, and we struggle to raise children in this climate. A key question we must answer is: what t

A PPS-led inclusion training for the United Indian Muslim Association
As part of a collaboration between PPS and United Indian Muslim Association (UIMA), PPS conducted the Continuing Professional Education Workshop for Little Dolphins Playskool, which is under the education arm of UIMA. To be on par with ECDA's tiered approach in enabling inclusion, to value differences, to maximise potential and to enhance pedagogical skills for teachers, Little Dolphins Playskool as an organization decided to take the first step by inviting professional train

Celebrating our Children on their special day!
Children were looking forward to their Children's Day holiday on 7 Oct - were overheard chatting with their friends animatedly about their plans to go out with their parents or friends. They were in for a treat last Thursday as teachers added to their fun by organising Centre-wide celebrations! It's easy to put a smile on their face with simple gifts or activities, but teachers went above and beyond to make them feel very special. Children were especially thrilled to come t

Encouraging our Children to be Little Heroes of Inclusion!
Psalm 139:13 – 14 For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. For children's day this year, we hoped to move the children to see that Children’s Day is about celebrating all children! It is not just about themselves, but their peers too. Thus, we introduced the 10 Ways to be a Little Hero Children's Day cards. You may download them belo

Children's Day baking fun with SPS Baey Yam Keng!
One thing that brings a smile to the faces of both children and adults alike would definitely be carnivals! For children's day this year, Tampines Centre was treated to just that - a Children's Day Carnival with games, food, activities, and basically all things fun. To start off the morning, children had a blast with their friends and teachers outdoors, trying their hand at exciting games like toss the ring and tumbling cups. They were also thrilled to play circle games and c

Good Start Conference 2022: Playing to our strengths to make it a success!
It was a hectic morning on the 9th of September as our staff bustled around to do final preparations for the Early Childhood Intervention Conference at Lifelong Learning Institute. Everyone was nervous but excited to help to host such a large-scale physical conference – you could hear staff saying words of encouragement such as “加油” or “we can do this!” Some even offered to buy a cup of coffee for their colleagues to perk them up for the day’s activities. It was also a day wh

In Gladness and Gratitude
On 1 September 2022, the entire staff body of Presbyterian Preschool Services (PPS) and Presbyterian Community Services (PCS) gathered at Happy Joy Restaurant for the Staff Appreciation Dinner. Themed “In Gladness and Gratitude”, it was an occasion for us to thank the staff for the work that they do faithfully on the day to day. More importantly, it was a reminder for us to express our thanksgiving to God from whom all blessings flow. Over the course of the night, delicious f

"Those who want to; teach."
"Those who can; do. Those who can't; teach." This phrase first appeared in George Bernard Shaw's stage play, Man and Superman, in 1905. It means that those who are not good enough to do the 'real' work end up teaching. However, at PPS, we have seen our teachers work faithfully and tirelessly to care for the younglings under their care. With more children spending at least 10 hours in a childcare/infant care centre each day, our preschool teachers do a lot more than teach. It

Teachers’ Day Dedication Service 2022!
Bright and early on a Saturday morning on 20 August 22, preschool professionals and Sunday school teachers converged at the Faith Methodist Church for a time of thanksgiving, prayer and reflections. It was also a time where PPS staff comprising principals, teachers and support staff, shared blessings and got to know their counterparts in the other Christian preschools. Smartly dressed PPS staff with their white tops and colorful scarves. After the welcome from Ps Alby Yip f

Loving our migrant workers this National Day!
National Day is around the corner and we had celebrated Singapore’s 57th birthday with our children! Our theme for the National Day activities this year is “Loving Our Country”. Our children were reminded to thank God for the wonderful Singapore that he has placed us in. Other ways that we can love our country would be to do good and love our neighbours! Not just our next door neighbours, but anyone and everyone who is around us. This year, we paid homage to the migrant worke
